ENS name: ceresstation.eth
My reasons for wanting to be a delegate:
I believe that the true potential of web3 is to completely change how we fund public infrastructure. On the internet, identities are one key piece of that infrastructure. As Alisha recently noted, itās hard to imagine having to type in an IP address every time we want to visit a website for information, and weāll soon feel the same way about how we use addresses to transfer value.
Most importantly, itās very possible for us to still end up in a world where these critical functions in the metaverse are owned by existing web2 monoliths like Facebook. Ultimately, thatās a major issue for anyone that believes they should have more control over the next phase of the web, and more interoperability between the services that they use.
By becoming a delegate of the ENS ecosystem, I can help push forward not just the ENS ecosystem but the public goods space on the whole as Iāve done through my work as a co-founder of Gitcoin and as a participant in a number of other related organizations in the past, such as the Digital Public Goods Alliance and Ethereum Foundation Grants.
My view on each section of the proposed ENS Constitution
- Name ownership is an absolute right: (Agree/Disagree/Comment)**
I think absolute ownership is a fundamental prerequisite to an open, community owned web.
- Registration fees exist as an incentive mechanism: (Agree/Disagree/Comment)**
Fees are not always bad, fees can help keep organizations sustainable, and ultimately can be used to help make sure users act in good faith, and donāt attack the system without consequence.
- Income funds ENS and other public goods: (Agree/Disagree/Comment)**
Fees are also good because itās possible to use them to sustain ENS itself and the ecosystem on the whole. Thereās a huge amount of potential in web3 for public goods to govern themselves, but perhaps even more potential to allow them to sustain themselves.
- ENS Integrates with the global namespace: (Agree/Disagree/Comment)
We canāt repeat the mistakes of web2 and create walled gardens, we have to be part of the larger ecosystem and that includes leveraging existing well-adopted systems.
My web3 qualifications / skills:
- Actively participated in the Ethereum ecosystem since 2016 (and surprisingly, started a DAO project back then as well)
- Co-founded Gitcoin which has funded over $40m in public infrastructure to date
- Helped push forward one of the first Digital Public Goods Alliance communities of practice
- Served as a committee member in a variety of community grants programs including Ethereum Foundation Grants
- Advised a number of new web3 public goods related projects to help further my broader beliefs about how the ecosystem should evolve
