My reasons for wanting to be a delegate: I have a strong resolve for the potential of blockchain-based domain tech in offering identity solutions in a very decentralised way. Protocols that are fully decentralized are beautiful. They are automatic, permissionless, immutable, and cannot be stopped by any entity. Fully decentralized protocols live to give you the best service, not to make money.
I would really love to contribute to the security, governance, and growth of ENS. The ethereum name service will join the list of platforms that have taken off their training wheels and become fully and truly decentralized.
The blockchain is permissionless, anyone is able to register and manage ENS. Creating a proposal against that would be against the pillars of decentralization.

Having fees as a way to prevent domain hoarding is a very nice idea. It allows small fish (like me) register a name affordably while giving risk to domain dealers who own thousands of names. A proposal that breaks the permissionless quality of blockchains should never pass.

My reasons for wanting to be a delegate: I have been a user of ENS since the launch. Using it for both my personal account and our project (rotki) where ENS support was one of the first things we added. When Nick, Alex and the rest of the team introduced the idea back in 2017 I found it fascinating to have a name registry in Ethereum. It sounded a bit centralized with all decisions taken by the devs and the people in the multisig but made sense for a new project.
Since then the team kept building and building and building and made ENS what it is today. I admittedly forgot about the centralization vector and my first reaction was āa token againā? But yes a DAO here makes absolutely 100% sense since governance of the ENS should be handled by its users.
It is for that reason that I would like to put my self forward as a delegate candidate. I have very strong opinions on decentralization, web3 and user ownership which guide me in this field since I first dabbled in crypto and believe that I would be of use in the DAO as a delegate. Moreover I have proven experience in being a DAO delegate as I am one of the top 5 active delegates of Gitcoin DAO.
Name ownership shall not be infringed: Agree. There should be no reason for the DAO to enact any actions to interfere with the basic right of name ownership of any ENS name holder.
Fees are primarily an incentive mechanism: Agree for the incentive part but also see it as a way for ENS to be self sufficient. The fees have been instrumental in ENS as a project managing to come so far and become financially self-sustainable and this imo should continue even in the age of the DAO.
Income funds ENS and other public goods: Agree. All income should go to fund ENS. Perhaps even if there is a huge surplus fees could then be reduced?
ENS Integrates with the global namespace: Absolutely agree. But I would go further and say that the ENS DAO should proactively try to pursue integration with the global namespace instead of just waiting for people to claim.
My web3 qualifications / skills: I am a senior backend dev and founder of rotki. I have worked in ethereum since before the launch in a variety of technical roles. Contributed to the solidity compiler, the C++ ethereum client, wrote the DAO, white-hacked the DAO, cleaned up after that mess, wrote most of the code for the raiden network and wrote most of the backend for rotki. I also have experience with DAOs being one of the top 5 delegates for the Gitcoin DAO.

My reasons for wanting to be a delegate: I joined the cryptoverse in 2017 looking to contribute to something I considered exciting and bleeding edge technology. After treating the cryptoverse as a side project for several years Iāve finally immersed myself in the web3 ecosystem.
The current leadership of ENS team is demonstrating a sophisticated and mature approach that I canāt fault and Iād love to be able to contribute to the success of ENS.

We believe that ENS is an important utility in Web3. How it is governed will have significant repercussions for the ecosystem. We want to participate in delegation in order to ensure that the governance of ENS is informed by best practices, and to bring reflexivity and reflection to the ongoing task of governing.
Metagov (aka the Metagovernance Project) was founded to understand and improve the governance of online communities across Web2 and Web3. We know what works from other projects and systems and will endeavour to communicate learnings derived from ENS governance for the benefit of others.

This is a complicated issue. The .eth registrar contract is locked, though in practice there are ways for ENS team and keyholders to target a subset of addresses in order to āinfringeā on name ownership. But does ānon-infringementā mean that we can do nothing if someone manages to hack a substantial number of .eth names, such that the utility of the entire system suffers? Does it mean we have to guarantee the same prices for different TLDs, or the same governance? What if a child pornographer starts taking payments out of kidporn.eth? We believe that non-infringement is an important constitutional value to a decentralized service such as ENS. However, we believe that as a matter of practical policy, the community and DAO should recognize that (1) infringement is possible, (2) nothing in the real world is absolute, and (3) find ways to safeguard and check the use of this policy tool instead of saying ācode is lawā and ducking the issue.

The economic trajectory of decentralised blockchain infrastructures has demonstrated that the ability to extract and accrue fees can also be a signal of a projectās use if not resilience. These factors may influence the value of a token and present challenges for governance.

My reasons for wanting to be a delegate: Iāve been in the blockchain space since 2016 and followed ENS from its inception. I think ENS is one of the applications in the Ethereum space that make Ethereum really worthwhile. The project is especially important to eliminate one of the most complicated things when introducing new people to Ethereum: Using an address is really error-prone and not easily explained to new users. With ENS we finally have the possibility to use addresses as the thing they are: machine-readable identifiers; for humans we can now use the much better human-readable ENS names.
I want to be a delegate for the ENS DAO because I think the main problem with Ethereum at the moment is that it is too hard to understand for non-crypto-savy users. ENS has taken the first step to make it easier, and I think it can go a lot further. Recent developments (like the NFT as avatar) have shown that the ENS team is putting users first ā I want to help govern the DAO to stay focused on that mission: Make Ethereum usable by everybody.
