[TEMP CHECK] ENS Contract Naming Season

Love this effort. If we can get critical mass here, it will absolutely catch on, this is a great way to bootstrap adoption, and add real value to the space.

Really curious how the 10k ENS will be distributed… Are we just going to throw ENS to the people that actually do the naming or does it go to the teams? It’s sort of a rhetorical question… no response needed, just excited to watch how this all plays out.

Hey @Griff, appreciate your message.

The distribution mechanism hasn’t been finalised, but this is our current thinking.

The ENS is likely to go to the teams responsible for the naming as opposed to the individuals.

There will need to be a weighting component with respect to the size of the award so that larger protocols receive a larger award. The more users a protocol has, the bigger the impact of them naming their contracts. This we hope will encourage a trickle-down effect.

For instance, if Uniswap or Aave start naming their contracts people are more likely to take notice of this.

In terms of a reward pool for small projects, we’re not sure what this looks like yet. The key thing is that we can incentivise long-term behaviour change wrt contract naming, as opposed to teams just doing it to get a reward.

Hence we want to get that balance right, as if naming ends up being a one off event for teams due to the ENS token incentive alone, that wouldn’t be a great outcome for us.

Cool! More ownable contracts than I would’ve expected, that is great news.

Looking forward to more contracts having primary names :grinning:

This is going up for a vote now at Nouns DAO if anyone from ENS wants to comment https://www.nouns.camp/proposals/893. Don’t foresee any issues based on last vote.
