With the ENS root change happening, are there any advantages of .eth domains?

.eth names are “ENS native”, meaning they don’t rely on an external authority. That gives them a few advantages:

  • Fewer dependencies & less code means less opportunity for bugs and vulnerabilities.
  • No dependency on the security of the DNSSEC signing hierarchy.
  • Registration and renewal of names can be handled by smart contracts.
  • Ownership of names can be enforced by smart contracts, making it possible to issue subdomains trustlessly.
