ENS DAO Delegate Applications

ENS name: daws.eth

My reasons for wanting to be a delegate: I will continue to drive web3 forward in an equitable fashion. I have proven this with years in the open-source scene and with earni.fi.

My view on each section of the proposed ENS Constitution

  • Name ownership shall not be infringed: Comment

Code is usually law, but in rare instances like the DAO hack of 2016, social consensus (layer 0) needs to take priority. If there were a massive issue with the ENS system, the DAO should have the ability to overtake names after a majority consensus in voting.

One example is if every conceivable name under 10 characters was suddenly purchased via a bug in the smart contract. In order to avoid hard-forking the entire Ethereum network, the ENS DAO should retain its right to fork the smart contracts and abandon the version of ENS which has every domain under 10 characters claimed.

  • Fees are primarily an incentive mechanism: Agree
  • Income funds ENS and other public goods: Agree
  • ENS Integrates with the global namespace: Agree

My web3 qualifications/skills: I have multiple years in the web3 space. I am the founder and sole employee of earnifi. Through this work, Earnifi has brought $100 million USD of airdrops to everyday people like you and me.

ENS name: davidc.eth

My reasons for wanting to be a delegate:

The ENS is core web3 infrastructure and requires a multi-disciplinary team of delegates with a broad range of skills and experience to give the crypto space the best chance at becoming what many aspires it to be: a free and fair system for all.

Many of those who are stepping forward to be delegates have a technical / development background. I am a commercial lawyer with years of experience in the crypto space and I have a deep understanding of crypto regulation. In my view, navigating regulation will become a necessary piece of the puzzle as the ENS DAO and the broader crypto community moves forward in the coming years and beyond.

My view on each section of the proposed ENS Constitution

  • Name ownership shall not be infringed: Agree
This is a foundational concept and must form the basis of any identity or pseudo-identity based system of interaction. Without provable exclusive identity, we would not be able to form and effectively manage and operate web3 structures and institutions such as DAOs.

  • Fees are primarily an incentive mechanism: Agree
However, thinking of fees purely as an incentive mechanism should not result in broader measures being taken to prevent overcrowding, speculation and squatting. Fees have their place, although to achieve the intended goal they must be combined with other practical measures such as limiting the number of ENS names each individual may hold.

  • Income funds ENS and other public goods: Agree
We must not allow web3 institutions such as the ENS DAO to become corrupt and purely self-interested as we see in the traditional corporate world. The ā€˜other public goodsā€™ piece of this article of the Constitution is as important, if not more so, than funding the ENS DAO itself (although of course meeting its operational funding requirements is a necessary component).

  • ENS Integrates with the global namespace: Agree
This is a critical path towards adoption and official government recognition. Without integration with legacy systems, the ENS DAO will struggle to become the true backbone of web3 identity.

My web3 qualifications / skills:
I am a commercial lawyer specialising in crypto, including regulation. I run my own law firm based in Brisbane, Australia. I have experience dealing with large corporations and governments, which will absolutely be required in the coming years. The ENS DAO needs more than solidity developers as its delegates - we need a diverse group of multi-disciplinary minds and thought leaders.

ENS name: chapterone.eth

My reasons for wanting to be a delegate: I have built social products my entire career and believe that ENS has the opportunity to become more important than Facebook Connect.

Iā€™ve spent the last year exploring the intersection of web3 and social & have become increasingly convinced that a blockchain naming standard like ENS will reduce barriers for mainstream involvement in web3.

My view on each section of the [proposed ENS Constitution

  • Name ownership shall not be infringed: Agree
Name ownership across social platforms will connect web3 identities across many different protocols/platforms/products and is a meaningful advantage over DNS.

  • Fees are primarily an incentive mechanism: Agree
Fees incentivize longer term behaviors and create the right ā€œskin in the gameā€ to own ENS names that provide actual utility to the end user.

  • Income funds ENS and other public goods: Agree
Income funds should be allocated by a treasury whose primary objective is to grow the ENS ecoystem. Funds will be spent on core product development and marketing to grow awareness for ENS. As a builder and investor, I am particularly excited to help identify teams who are building social products that use ENS as a core advantage over web2 products.

  • ENS Integrates with the global namespace: Agree
This is important for the long term health of ENS & creates the right foundation for the project to keep growing.

My web3 qualifications / skills I am a builder at heart and was formerly the VP of Product, Revenue at Tinder. I will bring this experience to help ENS provide more utility for users and to grow the DAO/business.

I have spent the last 5 years investing in crypto including the seed rounds of Dapper Labs, The Graph, Compound Finance, Blockfolio, Fleek, Lolli, Reserve Protocol, Dharma Labs, Syndicate Protocol, Rabbithole, Ondo Finance, and many others.

I will use these founder relationships and my network to help ENS grow through product integrations and community.

My reasons for wanting to be a delegate:

The applications for ENS are endless and I can offer a unique perspective around decentralization, self identity, and web3. I have 35+ ENS domains personally registered, some which I use for wallet management, others for education / onboarding, and a lot for self-expression. Iā€™ve personally bought and donated 15+ ENS domains to new crypto users in order to make it much easier for them to use Ethereum.

I believe deeply in decentralization but I also recognize that there are folks who will take advantage of that. Iā€™d like to advocate for fairness with ENS domains, where domain trolls canā€™t hold domains hostage and we welcome new users into this ecosystem. Iā€™m not advocating for centralizing this decision making, but would love to think through difference models that may disincentivize that type of behavior (similar to spamming). ENS is such a valuable tool for connecting identity with wallets, we should be encouraging companies, brands, and users to join us. ENS has so many potential applications and use cases, and I want to become a delegate in order to continue growing usage and utility of ENS.

My view on each section of the Proposed ENS Constitution 981:

  • Name ownership shall not be infringed: Agree.
  • Fees are primarily an incentive mechanism: Agree, with caveat that I heavily lean into the ENS proposed constitution here which suggests using fees as a disincentive model as well.
  • Income funds ENS and other public goods: Agree. ENS funds should go towards driving more adoption, utility, and building with ENS.
  • ENS Integrates with the global namespace: Agree.

My web3 qualifications / skills:

  • I have been an investor and operator in Web3 since 2016
  • Investments include: Bison Trails, Chainalysis, Dapper Labs, OpenSea, SupeRare, POAP, XMTP, Zapper and many, many more.
  • I am a co-founder of the Stoner Cats NFT collection and Stoner Cats DAO
  • Co-Founder of The Gimmicks NFT collection, which is targeted at a more mainstream audience
  • Iā€™ve written a weekly crypto newsletter since 2017: thisweekincrypto.substack.com (note: before 2020 I sent the emails directly from my inbox, so archives havenā€™t been uploaded to Substack)
  • I understand how to reach a new audience that isnā€™t crypto-native, and have spent many hours onboarding folks into crypto.
  • I work closely with high-profile brands and the entertainment community, and have a deep understanding of the friction involved in bringing new people into the ecosystem. We have a tremendous opportunity to become the web3 standard for everything related to crypto.

My reasons for wanting to be a delegate:

Decentralization and blockchain are improving the digital world, empowering Web3, and fostering economic equality in real life. I plan to dedicate my time and pool my resources towards these shared fundamental beliefs. I believe ENS is crucial to the foundations of Web3. There needs to be simple and plain naming that is not to confuse folks, similar to what has been done in Web2. For the sake of promoting decentralization and blockchain in the future, we need to build a system that works best for the users that want to put it towards its intended use case.

I truly believe in this project and fully commit to upholding its values. I agree with all points that arachnid has summarized.

My web3 qualifications / skills:
I have a background in finance, technology, and growth strategy. I can leverage my 5+ years of experience and connections in my MBA program to promote ENS and help it succeed amongst a broader network of individuals that donā€™t have a great understanding. I have been a holder of ETH since 2017 and never sold. I have expanded my holdings of coins and NFTs on the ETH network as a true believer in the use cases and capabilities. I have spent much of my time understanding the changing blockchain ecosystem and onboarding folks. I am active in several projects such as Dark Horizon and Pixel Beasts on OpenSea as well as up and coming DAOs this month. My earliest engagement in NFTs began with NBA Top Shots in Q1 2021, but once I learned of the ability for community creation and the ability to help artists, I became more active on OpenSea. I currently seek to have a full-time job in the crypto space while studying for my MBA. I consider my full-time job to be DAO and NFT community development as well as bridging the knowledge gap for folks without a blockchain understanding.

My reasons for wanting to be a delegate: I would like to help to support the development of ENS. I believe there is such a strong future with ENS and would be honored to be part of history in the making. With the primary goal of making ENS the Web3 standard I would like to assist in making it secure, durable and accessible to users worldwide.

My view on each section of the [proposed ENS Constitution ](Proposed ENS Constitution )

  • Name ownership is an absolute right: (Agree/Disagree/Comment)- AgreeThe way I see it, we all have the right to buy and use an ENS name and there really shouldnā€™t be any restrictions ever enacted upon the use and exercise of that domain name, nor any changes that target specific holders with the exception of damaging or potentially violent use cases that have a negative intent or are purposely seeking out to damage the original DNS name hold or the ass business.

  • Registration fees exist as an incentive mechanism: (Agree/Disagree/Comment)- Agree - I also feel this helps to ward off the potential for mass squating and abuse of the chain. I feel without Registration fees there would be in a sense a buy wall built in the process which could hinder the growth of ENS.

  • Income funds ENS and other public goods: (Agree/Disagree/Comment)- Agree - I believe that ENS funds are entirely public goods. They should or taken advantage of by an individual for personal gain. The income funds should be used for the betterment of ENS and perhaps for internal administrative costs.

  • ENS Integrates with the global namespace: (Agree/Disagree/Comment) - Strongly agree. I feel that ENS should and will most certainly be the standard on the Global Namespace in the future.

My web3 qualifications / skills: I am a developer with the LiteCoinCash blockchain and have years of software development skill. I also have over a decade of experience developing and managing DNS domains. Furthermore I am a collector of ENS domain names, and have plans to build services using the domain names. I mamage a digital NFT store on OpenSea and have years of experience in digital art and design. I hold a Masters Engineering degree which included programming and was a teacher for a software development course at a collegiate level for several years prior to starting my own business. I feel my experience would also help to expand the knowledge base of other in the community. I also have a 7.5GH ETH mining rig! Overall I am accustomed to working within a variety of software langauges.

Itā€™s clear the marketplace for eth addresses is bottlenecked by high gas fees and keyword limitations, restricting retail participation. Thereā€™s still a lot of friction due to fees and unavailability for Average Joe to go buy averagejoe.eth (if it is even still available). We need a roadmap for long-term onboarding of new TLD suffixes.

My web3 qualifications / skills:

Blockchain developer on Ethereum (Solidity, ethers.js, Truffle stack, etc.)

Iā€™m also a crypto trader. Iā€™ve built custom ML models based on market price predictions. Releasing a new API soon that provides triangular arbitrage as a service for any arbitrary set of crypto assets. See my github for more details. https://www.github.com/brettmontaigne

ENS name: dominikto.eth

My reasons for wanting to be a delegate:

When I grew up (blocking the -back then- analog landlines at home) venturing out into dial-up bulletin board systems and later the early internet, almost everything online was about learning, tinkering, using and building open standards, interoperability, community and making new friends.

ENS and the community around it bring back fond memories of that time and I believe that ENS can be a core piece of infrastructure on the journey to bring back the time where everyone online was not just a user of proprietary products but an active participant on an open internet.

I will strongly advocate for ENS.

My web3 qualifications / skills: I am a developer and previously built a SaaS product (and company) to organize, sync & share contacts, calendars and taks across platforms and devices around our open core sabre/dav (a framework and server to implement the open standards WebDAV/CardDAV/CalDAV, powering sync features in products such as ownCloud, nextCloud, Box and a bunch of others). I am a lawyer by education.

So far I havenā€™t put any web3 project into production, but it probably goes without saying that I have tinkered with Solidity and am an avid web3 user and community member.

I spend my days looking at and working with all sorts of exciting founders and software companies along the modern software infra and developer tools stack - naturally almost all of them are open source companies.
