To continue scaling and evolving ENS, ENS Labs has submitted a funding request to pursue ENSv2 Development—the most significant upgrade to the ENS protocol since its inception in 2017. Given the scale of this initiative, along with the resources needed for its maintenance, auditing, and deployment, this request reflects a substantial increase over previous years’ funding.
ENS Labs is deeply committed to both decentralization in our technology and transparency in our processes. We recognize the responsibility—and trust—that accompanies this increased funding from the DAO. In response to community feedback on our funding request, we are enhancing our commitment to transparency by providing quarterly financial and progress reports as it relates to ENSv2 development, starting Q1 of 2025, which will be posted to this thread.
The reporting format will evolve over time based on feedback., but will initially consist of two main sections: Financial Reporting and Technical Progress Updates.
The financial reporting section will cover the total budget, quarterly expenditures, primary spending areas (development resources, infrastructure, and security audits), and the remaining budget to date. In the technical progress section, we will provide detailed updates on the current ENSv2 development phase, completed milestones, specific progress in research, design, and testing, as well as any challenges encountered and necessary timeline adjustments.
These reports will be shared in this thread, with the first report expected by the end of Q1 2025. We look forward to introducing a new level of transparency to our development and will continue refining the reports over time. ENSv2 is a new chapter in the development of ENS, and we cannot wait to share our progress with you.
