Org3 - ENS subdomain-based organization management tool

Hey y’all! This is Julie. Introduced you guys ENS Doc at https://doc3.me before, today I wanna give you an update on a longer-term project I am working on with a couple of my teammates, including @64bits.eth.

TL;DR

Mission & Vision

We are building an ENS subdomain-based organization management tool, as we believe the ENS subdomain is a safer, cheaper, more intuitive, and more interoperable solution when it comes to DAO and web3 organization management.

We are planning to integrate use cases including payroll, communication (email/instant messaging), access control, file sharing, and more.

Key Features Delivered

Internally Live at: https://beta-org3.vercel.app/. While everyone can access this link, we are still testing it and actively rolling out new features - so just to say, it’s NOT an official launch:)!

Upcoming Features SneakPeek (Not official)

ezgif.com-video-to-gif

Key Things we are working on

  1. Better Loading Speed for ENS community data (Currently take 15s for airports.eth subnames)

  2. Research on the right User experience to best balance and satiate both: permission (Admin assign subname) & permissionless (Mint subname).

  3. Try to onboard some DAO tools and make them useful for subnames

Timeline

Dec 2022

  • Gather feedback on features needs and set up features priorities in Q1 2023. At least gather feedback from 10 ppl in DAO governance.

  • Better UI/UX and frontend, for instance: Batch edit/create for domain owner; Hide unassigned subname

Q1 2023

  • Internally go live and improve features based on what people need

  • Better UI/UX design and frontend implementation to satiate larger database

  • Backend/feature update for ENS namewrapper

  • Integration with ideally 5+ platform/protocol

Background

Org3.eth is one of the 13 Finalists and also the grand prize winner of ENS in ETH San Francisco (ETHSF). The ultimate goal is to build the infrastructure and functionalities that standardize the DAO governance and web3 organization management through the ENS subdomains system in a decentralized and fair nature. Currently, Org3 has developed an ENS subdomain-based access control system with IPFS, Graph protocol, which is more advanced than the tokens-gated access control because 1. the subdomain represents an intuitive tree structure; 2. decoupling of on-chain address (note: this can also be smart contract) and resource access control; 3. lower cost thanks to the ENS smart contract.

Rationale

First, there are rising and urgent needs for DAO and web3 organization management. The systematic risk of not having serious decentralized, web3 organization management has shown the world very drastic financial loss, including 3AC, FTX, and more, and many DAOs, such as Panda DAO, suffering governance chaos has led to its ultimate dissolution. Building Org3, with collaboration with other DAO tools and organization platforms, we can standardize a way to help the blockchain communities to better govern and operate so that we can lead to a brighter future with reduced risk. Secondly, we can push wider adoption of ENS subdomains at the organizations and communities level because it will provide many use cases in the future including payroll, communication (ENS email), access control, and more.

This is exactly the type of project that, if well executed, is going to popularize subdomains among web3 users, and as a result, is going to further popularize ENS as a whole.

Looks very promising.

Thank you!

Internal Testing

Hey everyone,
After the presentation in last week Ecosystem Meeting, we have debugged, made changes to features are ready for you guys to testing it out! :blue_heart:
Thanks y’all so much for being early supporter at this early stage.

This testing will have our first time on-chain (Goerli) record of community members’ support! Nothing gets more exciting by having ENS subnames as the on-chain proof of contribution

Testing Instruction

Note this instruction is supposed to be short so that you can freely explore the website

1. Mint a subname of org3-alpha.eth

Go to this invitation link ORG3 and mint your subname

2. Create your own ENS-subdomain gated community/organization

Create one your own ENS-subdomain based community

3. Share what you have created on step 1 and 2 and your thoughts here

Any bug encountered, any features you would like to have, and any concerns? And let’s get each others’ subnames over there.

4. We also have a figma-version prototype with Admin Control features. If you are interested in testing it out, lmk

Excited to see ur feedback!

If you don’t have GoerliETH for testing, feel free to drop your wallet/ENS here and I will send over some for testing!

Hey y’all! We just win a finalists at ETHDenver 2023🎉! Its name is M3MBER.

M3MBER

Core features:

  1. Admin can give out (including batch airdrop) membership with customized mint & renew rules, implemented thru ENS subnames & namewrapper.
  2. Users can get subname membership, extend, transfer & resell them too.
  3. Cool features sneak-peek:

One-liner

ENS namewrapper (ERC-1155) & subname empowered membership protocol w/on-chain expiry.

Problem we solve

  • The one-time purchase nature of NFT/token leads to two main problems with membership: 1. High barrier of entry for the user as it’s expensive; 2. Lack of incentivization of the core team/community leaders to deliver consistent value as there are few recurring revenues
  • There is no standardized on-chain membership with expiry yet

Solution we buidl

  • A platform where the community leads & service providers can build subname membership of domain name. Here are the main features:
    • To the admin: can set up membership rules, can create a mint link for others to mint (profitable with mint price), airdrop and even bulk airdrop memberships, and also a management panel to overview all subname memberships.
    • To the user: can mint membership, can overview all of their membership, can extend, transfer, sell their membership.
  • An API (& SDK in the future) for DApp to build subname-gated interaction

Really great work and demo explainer video. This is a great use case for the Name Wrapper and much needed utliity for NFTs! Opens up all kinds of possibilities for communities to build with this.
