Public Goods Small Grants - Q2 2024

Public Goods Small Grants - Q2 2024

The Public Goods Working Group is hosting a small grants round during Q2, 2024.

Submissions will open on March 29th at 9 am EST at https://ensgrants.xyz.

Awards

The total grant pool is 7.5 ETH distributed to ten recipients with the following prize structure:

Place Award Amount
:1st_place_medal: First Place 3 ETH
:2nd_place_medal: Second Place 2 ETH
:3rd_place_medal: Third Place 1 ETH
:four: β†’ :keycap_ten: 0.25 ETH

Public Goods Eligibility

Submissions eligible for the Public Goods small grants rounds should benefit the entire Ethereum or Web3 space.

Applicable projects may include some ENS functionality, but they should not be ENS-specific. A discussion about Public Goods vs Ecosystem projects has previously been discussed here.

Examples

  • :white_check_mark: EthersJS library. This can be used by all developers building on Ethereum, connecting front-ends to blockchain data and proliferating Ethereum functionality on all websites. This library is free or open source. Eligible.
  • :x: An ENS Marketplace. Although important for ENS, this has a more limited scope in the context of the entire Ethereum ecosystem and would be better suited for an ENS Ecosystem grant. This submission may or may not be open source.
  • :x: Web3 funding for social causes. The ENS constitution specifies that the constitution may fund public goods within Web3. Submissions that merely leverage Web3 funding mechanisms but do not benefit Web3 are ineligible.

Submission Removals

Public Goods stewards have the discretion to delete spam, ENS-specific and inapplicable submissions to maintain the integrity and quality of the round.

Voting Mechanism

The previous two Small Grant rounds used the Voter Card system. This round will not use the Voter Card system in favor of simplicity and will use the ENS token as the mechanism. The Snapshot strategy will be the same predictable erc20-votes and delegate strategies used on the standard ENS snapshot space.

Timeline

  • Submissions Start: Friday, March 29th
  • Submission End: Thursday, April 4th
  • Voting Begins: - Friday, April 5th
  • Voting Ends: Thursday, April 11th

All starting and ending times will be 9 am EST.

To allow more time for adequate review and Snapshot implementation, starting and end times for voting has been moved to 6pm EST.

Voting Update

Two issues were identified with the small grants voting last week:

  1. Inaccurate display of voting power.
  2. Native voting not available on smallgrants.xyz user interface.

The first issue was resolved and due to an error in the snapshot strategy JSON.

The second issue is expected to be fixed soon. It is possible to hold the voting on Snapshot only, but we feel there is an importance of using the Small Grants interface and not relying on a hotfix. Current submissions will be unchanged. Updates will be provided in this thread.
