[RFC] Signals Protocol

Hi all,

@jkm.eth an I just wrapped up a new essay on Signals and we are looking for feedback from the DAO.

In addition to building native governance clients we are also protocol builders!

Drawing from the SPP2 experience we know that making critical allocation decisions on-chain can be overwhelming.

Our protocol has been development for over 6 months and maturing in the various use cases it can handle while also introducing some interesting game mechanics.

This is the first of many posts we will be dripping to the DAO for feedback.

The goal will be to eventually explore a pilot with ENS but there much work to do to get there! At this point we need to seed the idea and gather as much feedback as possible so we appreciate all comments!

We published our post earlier this week. Please have a read and give us your thoughts.

We are now working on a follow up that unpacks how we have baked incentives into the protocol.

Tbh, after our talk on Friday, this is starting to make more sense to me. Especially how it could help surface promising project proposals for the SP initiative.

I recommend that @AvsA and the @Meta-Gov_Stewards give this serious consideration, as I believe it would save Delegates a lot of time and effort during SPP3 next year.

@Arnold do we feel it makes more sense for this to be presented during the MetaGov call vs the Public Goods one (given this is posted in the PG category)? It would be great to open it up to some Q&A and different perspectives

Hey Simona. Thanks I’ve pushed this into the MetaGov category.

Happy to present this at a more relevant time, currently we are just attempting to gather more user feedback.

We also have posted two more articles since our original post that unpack more details about the protocol linked below for convenience.

For anyone reading, this is a true RFC in the sense we are seeking bottom up feedback. So many people have reservations about DAOs and how they function.

As long term believers and builders we have designed Signals to hopefully address many of the big shortcomings in DAOs such as:

  • How do we natively incentivise participation?
  • How can we capture the preference intensity behind ideas in a more timely manner?
  • How do we reward participants who provide early feedback and discourage bandwagoning?
