Abstract
This is a proposal to refund fees spent on .eth names that may be negatively affected by updates to the name normalizaion standard passed in EP 3.7, which relates to ENS-IP 15 — Name Normalization.
Specification
A .eth name shall be eligible for a refund if it was actively registered on June 15, 2023, the date EP 3.7 was passed, and may be negatively affected by updates to the name normalization standard passed in EP 3.7.
The refund for eligible .eth name consists of 3 components: gas fees, Temporary Premium Fees, and registration fees.
1. Gas fees
Refund gas fees paid to register a .eth name that may be negatively affected by updates to the name normalizaion standard passed in EP 3.7, and any gas fees paid during the curent registration period to extend the registration of that name.
The gas fee is estimated based on the one month average gas cost at the time of the registration and renewal transaction for the .eth name. Gas is calculated as that spent on:
- registering the name; and
- extending registration/renewing the name
2. Temporary Premium Fee
Refund any Temporary Premium Fee paid at the start of the current registration period to register a .eth name that may be negatively affected by updates to the name normalization standard passed in EP 3.7.
3. Registration fees
Refund registration fees on a .eth name that may be negatively affected by updates to the name normalization standard passed in EP 3.7
Prior to the commencement of voting, major Delegates will be polled to choose between two registration fee refund options. The most favoured option will be included in the final Executable Proposal. The two options are:
Option A — 115 ETH
Refund only remaining registration fees (from June 15, 2023) for eligible names
This option refunds only remaining registration fees paid on an eligible .eth name from June 15, 2023 until the end of the current registration period of that name.
This option also includes all gas fees and any Temporary Premium Fee paid on that name according to the criteria set out above. The total cost of this refund option is 115 ETH.
Option B — 241 ETH
Refund all registration fees for eligible names
This option refunds all registration fees for an eligible .eth name from the most recent date of registration until the end of the current registration period of that name.
This option also includes all gas fees and any Temporary Premium Fee paid on that name according to the criteria set out above. The total cost of this refund option is 241 ETH.
