Notes

1. Welcome ALL :sparkles:

2. Miscellaneous ENS updates of general interest

  • ENS Labs published Q1 update report.
  • 4 snapshot proposals are active:
    • Two proposals (6.4 and 6.5) relate to amending the voting mechanism for the SPP2.
    • The other two proposals are funding requests from Meta Governance and Public Goods.
  • ENSvolution – ecosystem project, shows history of each name’s activity and updates.

3. PG Budget vote is live

  • The proposal was up on the forum for two weeks.
  • Clarification comment added to the forum post.
  • The budget was reduced by 150k and if they need that supplemented, they will be making a request in October.

4. DRC update on Market Structure Alignment

  • The bill got through the House but not the Senate,
    • So it’s restarting in the House.
  • The drafters will release a draft in the next week or so.
    • There will be a 48-72 hour window for industry comments.
  • A Google Doc will be used for collaborative drafting.
  • The aim is to create a decentralization test that incentivizes decentralization and distinguishes Ethereum from Ripple.
  • The plan is to gather endorsements before passing the text to the drafters.
  • The document will likely be 200-300 pages, but focus will be on key areas like the decentralization test.
  • Commentary on the document by ENS people is expected.
  • Feedback through working group stewards due to short timelines.
  • Public Goods Working group stewards and Urbelis from Labs will most likely participate.
  • Congress typically has a year to act before campaigning restarts.
  • There’s a fear that if action isn’t taken quickly, the bills may not pass.
  • The tone is less optimistic than when Trump was first elected.
  • The draft will be publicly available.
  • Designing Policy for a Flourishing Blockchain Industry.
  • Decentralized Tech Summit – Attendee List.

5. CherryBuilders presentation

  • CherryBuilders is a web app for team formation at hackathons.
  • Presentation: 🍒 cherry.builders Pitch Deck - Google Slides
  • Started as a hackathon project.
  • The goal is to help team members at hackathons find team members!
  • It’s confirmed as the official tool for ETH Dublin, Warsaw, and Rome.
  • Deca received a grant from ENS and is building Charity Builders as a public good project.
  • The name “Cherry Builders” came from a hackathon because the domain was affordable.
    • Although, some say it was actually a cheeky nod to “cherry-picking” your hackathon teammates… I guess we’ll never know…
  • Reach out to Deca if you wanna connect with him and talk more.

6. Weekly Kenya update with @clowes.eth in the field

Thomas in the Field

  • Thomas was in Nairobi for Magma Connect.
  • The event allowed him to meet builders and founders from previous and current Magma cohorts.
  • Interesting conversations about regulations were led due to unique laws and regulation in Africa.
  • Lots of talent and high level of education in Africa.
  • Thomas is writing a report about the trip and intends to publish it on the forum.
  • Thomas is talking in the Commons space tomorrow.
  • Went to Africa with no expectations and would like to focus more energy on the area.
  • The investment of 50k in Africa was the best DAO spent.

7. Open floor for all questions, proposals and other presentations etc.
