1. ENS Labs Updates
Big success all around with frENS Day, Devcon, ETH Global Hackathon
L2 primary names
Idea is that can set primary names on L2s, full ENS experience without touching mainnet smart contracts
Currently available on L2 testnets, coming to L2s in the future
Set name with one signature from the user
Check out ‘primary names’ in docs for more info: https://docs.ens.domains
Broad discussion around teams and people needed to coordinate implementation of an update of this size
No need to migrate anything, L2 primary names are new records not replacing anything
Each chain has its own reverse registrar
Before goes live on mainnet will post more information
Can save text record of every address on every chain

New product: https://durin.dev
Durin is an opinionated approach to issuing ENS subnames on L2 meant to support devs/hackers
Project docs, contracts, and architecture can be found on GitHub
On-chain L2 subnames launched in ~7 minutes; template provided for registrar is modifiable for devs to change pricing, allowlists, etc. Durin automates the boring bits for devs so they can build faster
Will improve over time to make progressively easier
Ability to deploy on 5 different Sepolia chains and Base mainnet, with other mainnets upcoming
Currently 80 deployments, with 280 names registered; easy to track these metrics
Namespace @thecap.eth

Started building front-end to make easier to:
Manage subnames, Manage subscription, setup resolver, and API Keys

Next week final call of the year
Discussion around Namechain and decentralized sequencing:
Centralized sequencing ok to launch, but goal is to launch with decentralized sequencing
When look at market different ways to sequence including shared sequencing and based rollups. Talking to both camps to understand tradeoffs between the two
Want to lean on expertise of above groups, not necessarily hire someone on the team to decentralize sequencing
Steward elections upcoming
Process post: Term 6 ENS DAO Steward Nominations and Election Process
Nominations 6-9 December; Need 10k ENS voting support, anyone who applies will get vote support
Elections 10-15 December, top 3 votes become stewards
Will run X Space as an opportunity for individuals interested in running for steward positions to introduce themselves to the community and explain why they wish to serve as a steward for the Working Group they have nominated themselves for.
Next Tuesday, 10 December at 10am ET / 3pm UTC

4. Open space for service providers
Unruggable @Premm.eth & @clowes.eth
ENS good for more than just identity based data; e.g. developer score, onchain balance, voting power
Want distinct from user data to make queryable
Put additional guards on call data that enforces extra restraints
Universal resolver that knows whether to decode extra restraints, prevent others from faking data; separation from user records and external records
Unruggable records associated with an ENS distinct from just name data
More info in this ENSIP: ENSIP-ideas/ENSIPS/ensip-TBD-6.md at main · nxt3d/ENSIP-ideas · GitHub
This ENSIP introduces Hooks, a new ENS resolution method that enables the secure resolution of onchain data through ENS records. For example, Hooks make it possible to securely resolve the number of ENS token votes delegated to an ENS profile via a specialized text record
Demo here: GitHub - unruggable-labs/hooks-demo
“Resolver specific protocols”: Idea is that the future of ENS is horizontally scaled, e.g. BNS is a Base specific protocol for ENS data
Make data that can’t be spoofed but are under an ENS: what user says about themselves (ENS) as opposed to what data says about a user (scores)
Discussion around use cases when applied with zk tech
@alextnetto.eth and Lucas from Blockful presenting https://ens.rent
Announcement: x.com
Platform for renting and listing ENS domains. Choose whether you want to rent a domain or list your domains for others to rent
tl/dr: Monetize domains not using
Contract relies on having manager and owner role separate; user can rent the manager role
Once name rented can’t take back control until rental period over
@cap : Recommend using the word ‘lease’ to avoid confusion over renting subnames
Repo: GitHub - blockful-io/ens-rent-contracts
